About Me
My name is Aditya Mukherjee. I have a middle name too, but I don’t use it except on official documents. Yes, that’s me on the right. No, that’s just how my hair gets after a shower.

I am none of the fancy things people on the Internet like to call themselves these days. I am not a designer—but I know how to make beautiful things usable and usable things beautiful. I am not a developer—but I have been involved in front and back end development of small-to-medium scale web services. I am not a writer—but I know how to write about things in a way you will enjoy reading. I am not a musician—but music is as much a part of me as are my arms and legs. In a way, I am all of those things, and none of them. There is no one thing that really defines me; I am whatever I need to be to tell my story effectively. And if there’s anything I have at a given time, it’s a story to tell.

I currently live in Lancaster, United Kingdom, as I work my way towards my bachelor’s degree from Lancaster University (BEng. Computer Systems). My hometown is Gurgaon, India, where I spend most of my longer breaks.

About The Website
This is my home, my casa, my playground. Everything that I am or do on the Internet is in one way or another pulled back here. As of May 2011, I am in the process of redesigning the entire website to be a better container for the various creative endeavours I might embark upon. That includes—but isn’t limited to—writing, photography and sketching. I don’t know when I will be finished. I don’t think the design process is ever truly finished.

The Journal section is where I write and experiment with what I believe online publishing should be like. Taking inspiration from designers like Jason Santa Maria, Dustin Curtis and Craig Mod who started their journey before me, I decided to try my hand at creating the best reading experience I could. That involves being selective of what I write about and its quality, and then creating the perfectly designed container for it to get its message across effectively. It’s an exercise in a whole new level of creativity and I’m excited to see where it will go. Keeping up with the ethos of unfinished-ness I might occasionally go back to old pieces and change their design or update their content if it improves them, leaving intact their initial spirit.

The Photography section is a way for me to show everyone what I see. I don’t use any fancy equipment; all photographs are taken using my iPhone 4, and are edited for clarity and presentation using Pixelmator. I’m not a serious photographer by any means. It’s just another outlet for my creative energies and it doesn’t cost anything, so why not.

The nature of this website demands the latest versions of modern browsers because they support experimental CSS, HTML and JS that make the lives of designers easier. I’m not too particular about following standards, but I try to make sure things look presentable in latest versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. You’re welcome to point out things that don’t look correct if you use a latest, modern browser (which you really should be doing in any case) though.

Get in Touch
I am currently not taking any client work due to University-related and personal commitments, but feel free to email me at hello@adityamukherjee.com to say hello, or respond to anything I put up here. I read every mail and if any of them need a response, do that as well. Although I do encourage @replying me on Twitter if it’s less than 140 characters—I respond much faster there.
